Drill Force has made a conscientious decision to enter the New Zealand drilling contracting market using only high quality modern multipurpose drilling rigs, Ancilliary equipment, testing and down hole tooling.

To demonstrate our ability, the Drill Force team have recently successfully completed projects with hole diameters exceeding 600mm, and drilled depths to ~1,000m in various areas within New Zealand.

OIL EXPLORATION / PRODUCTION WELL

Location: Eltham, Taranaki, New Zealand

Site Access: Approximately 4Km off sealed road along steep farm type tracks

MD: 1,905.2m (6,250.96’) 

Diameter at TD: 215.9mm (8-1/2”)

Conductor Casing: 13-3/8”

Surface Casing: 9-5/8”

Production Casing: 7”

Well Control:

  • 11” 3000psi Annular BOP
  • 11” 3000psi Double ram BOP
  • 11” 3000psi Drilling spool, inc Kill and Choke line valves
  • 5 station Well control system with remote driller’s panel, Electric and Air charged
  • 4-1/16” 5K Choke Manifold
  • Poor-boy Degasser

Drilling method: Rotary wash drilled and directionally steered with down hole motor

Crew: IADC Well Cap trained and certified drillers and management

This well was drilled using a full above ground closed circuit solids control system including three shakers and two centrifuges. The well was directionally deviated to intersect a Seismic interpreted Mt Messenger target where a reservoir quality sand was intersected. The well was then completed with production casing prior to the Drill Force Rig #6 rig also being used to run production tubing prior to initial flow testing.

OIL EXPLORATION / PRODUCTION WELL

Drilling method: Rotary wash drilled and directionally steered with down hole motor

This well was drilled using a full above ground closed circuit solids control system including two shakers and one centrifuge.  The well was directionally deviated to intersect a Seismic interpreted Mt Messenger target where a 40m, reservoir quality sand was intersected.  The well was then completed with production casing prior to the Drill Force Rig #1 also being used to run production tubing prior to initial flow testing where reported results included:

"Excellent light quality oil" with a density of 43.7 degrees API, and a pour point of 15 degrees centigrade.

SHALE GAS EXPLORATION / EVALUATION WELL

Location: Masterton, New Zealand
Site Access: Approximately 2km off sealed road along farm type tracks
TD: 1442m (4731")
Diameter at TD: 159mm (6-1/4")
Conductor Casing: 9-5/8"
Surface Casing: 7"
Production Casing: Nil
Well Control:

  • 11" 3000psi Annular BOP
  • 11" 3000psi Double ram BOP
  • 11" 3000psi Drilling spool, inc Kill and Choke line valves
  •  station Well control system with remote driller's panel, Electric and Air charged
  • 3" Choke Manifold
  • Poor-boy Degasser

Drilling method: Rotary wash drill with PQ (83mm diameter) core samples at specific targeted depths
Crew: IADC Well Cap trained and certified drillers and management

This well was drilled using a full above ground closed circuit solids control system including two shakers and one centrifuge.  A modified 6m long PQ wire-line coring system was used to recover the specifically targeted zones.  A second existing well within the same lease was also worked using the DSM Mayhew Rig #1 prior to its release.

COAL SEAM GAS EVALUATION WELL, WHANGAMOMONA, TARANAKI

Number of wells: 1 of 11 in project
Depth: 1,135m
Drilling method: Rotary wash drill
Drilling rig used: Rig #1 D.S.M. Mayhew SD54M.

This particular well location presented a logistical challenge from the get go. Due to the steepness, narrowness and tightness of the formed and unformed roads into the site and others within the project.

The well was drilled with a full BOP stack in place for well control and TD'd approximately 10% deeper than planned. The rig (#1) didn't falter and still had surplus capacity in the 8-1/2" hole at TD. The same rig ran the 1100m+ string of Range III, 7" OD casing without assistance or external casing crews. The drill crew demonstrated a professional attitude even in the adverse weather conditions experienced during the drilling, running of casing and completion periods.

UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION MONITORING WELL, ROTONGARO, WAIKATO

Number of wells: 1 of 5 in project
Depth: Typically around 400m
Drilling method: Mixture of selected wire line cored portions and rotary wash drill

Possibly New Zealand's most complex instrument arrays set in a single slim hole. A significant number of the Drill Force crew have been trained in the handling, installation and completion of these unique monitoring wells. Drill Force worked closely with the client and their material suppliers to develop the drilling plan, installation plan and specialist equipment to make these wells and the project a success.

IRRIGATION WATER WELL, GLENBROOK, SOUTH AUCKLAND

Number of wells: 1
Depth: 160m
Drilling method: Rotary wash drill

This, among numerous other water supply wells was a success for our well respected local growers. Part of the service that Drill Force supplied in this contract was a 24hr flow test, where existing near wells were monitored for connectivity. This information was essential to the client so as they could obtain an Auckland Regional Council Water Take Consent.

SH-1 ATAMURI BRIDGE REPLACEMENT GEOTECH INVESTIGATION

Number of wells: 6 holes in project

Depth: 35m

Drilling method: Fully wire line cored (HQ size)

A particularly interesting drilling project with each bore hole presenting its own health and safety concerns, these included:

  • Flood river levels (as the rig and equipment were below this level, constant communication was required with the river control authority, escape and rescue plans developed).
  • Access through and working in a "working forest".
  • Steep site set-ups with tall vegetation requiring helicopter support to mobilise the drilling rig and equipment to site.
  • Working adjacent to State Highway 1 (high traffic flows at open road speeds).

COAL SEAM GAS (CSG), SCOUT WELLS IN REMOTE NORTH EASTERN TARANAKI

Drilling Rig used: Rig #1 D.S.M. Mayhew SD54M

Uniquely challenging project with access limitations and adverse weather experienced. Our client benefited from the use of our new Range III, DSM drilling rig, support equipment and experienced crews who double shifted this project.

GEOTECH INVESTIGATION, MANGERE ARTS CENTRE

Number of wells: 7
Drilling method: Continuous wire-line coring
Drilling rig used: Rig #2 Cortech YDX 3L
Testing: In situation and down hole SPT’s, push tubes and shear vane testing

Foundation investigation for the proposed Mangere Arts Centre. This was carried out within a public car park during normal operating hours. Vehicular traffic and keeping the public a safe distance from the drilling operations created additional hazards that were risk assessed and controlled.

WATER WELL, RUAWAI COMMUNITY

Number of wells: 1
Completed diameter: 150mm
Total depth: 82m
Drilling rig used: Rig #3 Schramm T300M

Municipal Water supply well for the community of Ruawai. Casing was set and fully annular grouted back to surface, then telescopic screens were installed through an unstable aquifer to a total depth of 82m. On completion Drill Force conducted performance testing on the well.

COAL, HUNTLY WEST EXPLORATION WELLS

Number of wells: 4
Depth: ~450m
Drilling method: Wash drill with HQ wireline cored tail
Drilling rig used: Rig #3 Schramm T300M

These exploration wells were drilled in an area of the Huntly Coal fields where there where “gaps” in the information recorded from wells drilled in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Well completions included full cement grout back to surface (some 8,000 lt volume) and multiple deep pressure transducer installations. The wells were drilled on a double shift type operation as to reduce costs to the client and to meet their project deadlines.
